[Vacancy] Field Assistance at UNDP Indonesia

More than 165,000 people lost their lives as a result of the earthquake-tsunami of 26 December 2004 and the earthquake of 28 March 2005. While the response to the victims of the Tsunami disaster has been swift and generous, the need for significant ongoing capacity for coordination of relief activities along side recovery and recovery programming is anticipated at least until the end of 2007. The Office of the UN Recovery Coordinator for Aceh and Nias (UNORC) is therefore planning to recruit qualified Field Assistants to support its field operation in the Areas of Operations of the UNORC Field Offices in Calang, Meulaboh and Nias.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Head of UNORC Field Office, and in collaboration with the Field Officers, the incumbent is responsibilities for the following duties:

Assist in data and information collection and field assessments in order to ensure that recovery activities are being implemented in an effective and coherent manner, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that the needs of vulnerable populations are met and that affected communities are well informed of recovery process;
Assist in liaison with local authorities, NGOs, civil society and UN agencies to facilitate information exchange and promote collaboration and cooperation;
Assist in convening coordination and information sharing meetings and provide secretariat support to such meetings, including the maintenance of contact lists, activity/monitoring matrices, correspondence, minutes and notes as required;
Assist in preparing inputs to regular field reporting, assessment and mission reports, and participate in field office work plans and progress monitoring and evaluation;
Support in facilitating assessment missions with the government, UN, Donors, NGOs and civil society;
Provide translation at meetings, as well as translate any relevant documents, as assigned;
Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

At minimum, D3 diploma with 4 (four) years of relevant work experience or a D2 diploma with 5 (five) years of relevant work experience.
Diploma in social science, political science, development studies or other relevant social sciences.
Prior work experience in recovery, development or emergency relief organizations is an advantage. Familiarity with the post tsunami and/or conflict recovery in Aceh and Nias is an asset.
Excellent writing and speaking skills Bahasa Indonesia and good working knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of local language is an asset.
Strong inter-personal and communication skills.
Good computer skills.
