The University of Kurdistan Hawler invites applications for various positions in the department of Sociology and Social Policy. The appointees will work with other staff in the development of teaching and research programs, and will represent the discipline to the University and the wider community, nationally and internationally. We are now looking to appoint members of academic staff at Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels to develop and teach new degree courses in the following fields:1. Senior Lecturer in Sociology (Ref: SL1/SO/08).Required to teach in one or more of the following areas: Sociological Theory (Classical and Contemporary) Historical Sociology, Social Transformation and Change, Globalization.
2. Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Sociology (Ref: SL2/SO/08).Required to teach in one or more of the following areas: Religion, Family, Youth, Gender, Ethnicity, New Social Movements, Urbanization, Social Marginalization and Social Inequalities, Criminology.
3. Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Sociology (Ref: SL3/SO/08).Required to teach in the following areas: Research Methods – qualitative and quantitative –, Ethnography.
4. Senior Lecturer in Social Policy (Ref: SL4/SO/08).The successful candidate will be required to lead the Social Policy section of the department. We are keen to develop and teach courses on the effects of war, trauma and genocide on social dislocation and disability, at the level of community, family and individual, in the context of the current reconstruction programmes in Kurdistan and Iraq.
Candidates for Senior Lectureships should have a PhD in Sociology, Social Policy or a related discipline and a record of research and publication. Candidates for Lectureships should have a PhD completed or near completion, and a record of research and publication or evidence of research potential. All applicants should have experience of teaching in higher education. They must also be fluent in English.
All positions offer favourable remuneration (tax-free) and free accommodation. Short listed candidates will be interviewed during August 2008 and be expected to commence teaching in October 2008.
